Dubai is fast becoming THE place to hold major sporting events and with the current project, Dubai Sports City, in full swing it's only going to cement the fact that Dubai is going to be the place to hold all major sporting events. Dubai Sports City is the world’s first purpose-built sports city. Set on 50 million square feet of land within the Dubailand development, Dubai Sports City will feature four magnificent stadia: a 60,000 seat multi-purpose outdoor stadium, a 25,000 capacity cricket stadium, a 10,000 seat multi-purpose indoor arena, and a field hockey venue for 5,000 spectators.
A wide range of sporting events take place throughout the season in the UAE bringing the world's top-class sportsmen and women to the country. The US$1 million Dubai Tennis Championships attracts many of the world's top male and female players to the city's impressive Tennis Stadium. The tournament incorporates both men's ATP Tour and Women's WTA Tour events.
When it comes to money, the Dubai World Cup at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse is the richest horse race in the world. Horses have long been an intergral part of life in the UAE where some of the best equestrian facilities are located. The mile-and-a-quarter group-one race for four year olds and above offers an incredible US$6 million prize fund, with US$3.6 million going to the winner.
